Meet Sean!

Sean Carlson is running for State Senate District 13 in Oakland County. The newly drawn district includes West Bloomfield Township, Commerce Township, Lyon Township, Milford Township, South Lyon, Wixom, and portions of Waterford Township and Novi.
Sean is a proven public servant, military veteran, and lifelong Michigander.
At age 17, Sean enlisted in the U.S. Army. Later he became a commissioned officer in the U.S. Air Force and served for 20 years in both active duty and the Air National Guard, before retiring as a lieutenant colonel.
Sean is a graduate of Michigan State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration, a master’s in labor relations and human resources, and a Juris Doctor degree. He’s deeply rooted in Michigan, having grown up in the Upper Peninsula and now lives in Commerce Township with his family.
Sean currently serves as an Oakland County Deputy Executive, where he’s focused on modernizing services, creating good-paying jobs, and ensuring local government works efficiently.

Prior to his work for Oakland County, he was the Executive Director of the Michigan Defense Center. There he helped develop the state’s Protect & Grow initiative, attracting new Department of Defense investments and helping small businesses break into the defense sector.
Sean also served as Vice President of International Trade at the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, and previously as Senior Deputy Director at the Michigan Department of Management & Budget. There, he led reforms that saved taxpayers over $250 million in government contracts.
For 14 years, Sean served on the Huron Valley School Board, where he fought for quality education and responsible budgeting.
With nearly 40 years in public service, Sean is ready to bring his commitment to Lansing and fight for you on day one.
